Safety Tips for Gate Openers

Safety tips about gate openers are as follows: Make sure to move out of the way when a gate is opening and closing. Look for the sticker that says "UL" or "ETL", these are labels saying this gate has been tested in a lab and it stands with the UL 325 standard for Safety. Reaching into a motorized gate to reach the controls can result in injury. Make sure the gate controls are out of reach, at least 10 feet away from the gate. Make sure children are aware of the dangers. "Since March 2000, gate openers that are listed by a nationally recognized testing laboratory and are intended for use by the public (1) must include an inherent reversing feature and (2) must be installed with a secondary entrapment device such as photoelectric eyes or reversing edges" (DASMA). Do not install a gate opener system by yourself, because they have high levels of force and can cause sever injury if you don't know how t properly install it. Follow the maintenance schedule in you manual so that your gate will not break. Make sure you know how the system works and how to test it. Have covers over all areas that could be considered pinch points, or areas that could catch on your hands and/or feet.
